How Can You Improve Signs of Aging Around the Eyes?

Although many cosmetic treatments are too irritating for the thin skin around the eyes, one method that is safe for this area is AQUAGOLD® Fine Touch™. Rockland, Maine’s Skin Klinic & Day Spa explains that this micro-infusion treatment is ideal for areas on the face that can often be difficult to treat because of their extra sensitivity. Generally, the skin around the eyes—including the skin underneath them—is significantly thinner than the skin on other parts of the face. This makes it easier for the eyes to show signs of aging such as wrinkles, hollowness, and tiredness at a faster rate compared to other features.

There is also less fat and muscle beneath the skin in this area, so the lack of soft tissue makes it more prone to caving in. This skin around the eyes also contains less collagen and oil glands. Since the skin here is so thin and dry, it’s more likely to lose elasticity, develop more wrinkles, and become even thinner as time passes.

The effects of stress, lack of sleep, and a poor diet tend to show around the eyes. The skin is also frequently stretched in this area, moving out of place whenever you blink or squint. These muscle contractions are a common cause of crow’s feet, as well as “elevens” between the brows.

In addition to the skin growing less elastic, some other common problems related to thin skin are abnormally dryness, especially noticeable wrinkles, loose or crepey skin, eyes having a sunken appearance, and dark circles.

Even though it may seem like many factors are working against us, it’s possible to prevent and repair damage in this area. Along with AQUAGOLD® Fine Touch™, these other techniques can help you to restore more youthful, vibrant eyes for a more attractive appearance.

Use Eye Cream

The moisturizer that you use on the rest of the face won’t be as effective for the eyes. Although many products do provide hydration to keep your skin supple and glowing, moisturizers that are made for the face aren’t anti-aging treatments. The ingredients in facial moisturizers will also probably be too strong for the skin around the eyes, resulting in some burning, stinging, and itching. Creams that are specifically formulated for the skin around the eyes are designed to stimulate collagen growth.

Other In-Office Cosmetic Treatments

BOTOX® injections reduce crow’s feet—which are wrinkles that branch out from the corners of the eyes—by relaxing key facial muscles. This can give the face a softened, younger appearance. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a gentle, light-based treatment that can also help to reduce wrinkles and uneven pigmentation around the eye area.

Use Tried and True Anti-Aging Ingredients

A major trick to preserving a youthful look is to prompt the skin to create more of its own collagen. Know, however, that collagen creams and ingesting collagen won’t actually encourage growth of the collagen in skin. For that, you’ll need other powerful ingredients like peptides, vitamin C, retinol, and hyaluronic acid.

Prioritize High-SPF Products

Preventing wrinkles is always easier than addressing existing ones. Always apply a sunscreen with a high SPF to your face when you go outside. Be sure to include the area around the eyes that’s often forgotten and to wear protective sunglasses. The sunglasses will also make you less likely to squint and deepen crow’s feet. Sun protection will help you to avoid wrinkles, dark spots, and loss of collagen.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated with Oils

The entire eye area can look dull and tired if it’s too dry. The key to keeping those pesky fine lines and wrinkles at bay may be to hydrate as much as possible. Slathering on a rich cream followed by an oil will help to ensure that the skin looks glowing and healthy.
